Too Old for the Job

Image
Dream Job Dorothy is a job seeker who emailed me with a question about his job search. He is 54 years old. He has an undergraduate degree in computer science and a master’s degree in software engineering. He sent his resume to lots of employers, but he hasn’t got any responses. He wants to know, could age be the problem. Dorothy I really do not know, if age is a problem in your case. But I can help you figure it out or at least I can point you in the right direction. The place to start first is inside your personal network, those people who you know personally and professionally who can help give you some hints. Ask them what they think and based on their information in your industry and the level of employment you are seeking. In other words managers might be a little older on average compared to entry level workers. That would be the first place to start. Second, you can go online and ask some questions there. Join a professional networking organization such as LinkedIn.com

Because of your anxiety you don’t make as good an impression on your employer as you might have if there had not been a lie on your resume. Ok the second reason is the legal ground for termination when once you get a job. Let’s imagine t

Gaps in Employment — Resume Writing

A job seeker emailed me with a question about his career. He had been in the banking industry for about 30 years and reached the high level in that industry.  When he decided he was going to make a career change, so for the following 2 years he explored the areas of securities and also did some personal real estate investing and now he wants to get back into the banking industry and he wants to know from me, how shall he handle that 2 year employment gap on his resume. Here’s what I suggest. Use the chronological resume and for the first entry under experience section put the date of the last 2 years and for the job title place something like financial management and professional development. Then under that put 2 or 3 or may be two bullet points. One that speaks about your studies, your independent studies and the securities area and at the second bullet point discusses your financial management with regard  to your real estate investing now when you write about this activit
